In a world of chaos we recognise how important it is to have release from the daily grind and we want to create a place where we can share our love of play. So welcome to Chaotic Space; the new monthly gaming magazine brought to you from the team behind Space and Chaos. This monthly pdf will be free and will platform any writers and creatives who want to contribute.
There is no limit to what you can write: you can write a review of a game you’ve just picked up, you can tell your in game story as a PC, you can fantasize in the world of fanfiction, you can submit a written interview and everything in between. All submissions will be proofread and copy edited and any changes will be discussed – it’s really important to us that your writing will be treated with the respect it deserves and we want to be able to hear your voice coming through in anything you submit. That being said, our intention is to keep the articles PG13 so keep that in mind in submissions.
We are hoping to publish the first edition in Autumn 2024 so keep an eye on our socials for when the deadline for considered submissions will be. Listed below are a few ideas for sections in the magazine so you can submit something under these ideas or come up with your own concept. We are very excited to see what ideas you have.
In addition to the regular articles we will also have some google forms for you to complete if you want to contribute to the conversation but haven’t had an idea for a full submission yet… Press Start and The Big Question are ready for you to complete.
The first time you open a game is always filled with unbridled anticipation; there’s the big AAA games that you’ve been waiting for since their announcement, the indie games you love the concept of and want to show your support to a smaller creator, the games that have been on your periphery for years that you’ve been waiting to show up on sale and everything in between. If you want to review it then we want to hear your review. As always, Wheaton’s Law applies so bear that in mind… We’re excited to see what you’ve been playing.
Your reviews can come from any perspective too – either as an in game character or from an external point of view. Feel free to get creative.
You don’t always have to be sat at a PC or a console to be playing games. At Chaotic Space we know the importance of play and we’re not about to claim one form of gaming is better than another. If you want to play games on your mobile phone then who is anyone to judge you, we carry more computer power in our pockets than they had in Apollo 11 so why not use that for play rather than doomscrolling?
Why limit yourself to computers though? If you’re lucky enough to have people around you to play games in real life then we want to know what you’re playing. We are in a golden age of tabletop gaming and game collections are expansive and expensive – let’s shine a light on none blue light activities too.
It is said that if you give a monkey an infinite amount of time at a typewriter then they would write the entire work of Shakespeare. Most of us have access to a keyboard and with a little streamlining of creativity it might take us slightly less time to come up with our own stories. If a game has got your creative juices flowing and you have a story to tell then we want to read it. Remember this is a PG-13 magazine before you get too wild.
There’s a load of formats this can come in; stories, poetry, diaries – it’s all valid so get creative.
We’ve seen your socials, we know how talented you are at gaming photography and we want to see your pictures. We’d love to have your images decorating our magazine. Likewise, if your creativity leans towards the artistic then submit your creations and we’d love to publish them.
At Chaotic Space we love talking about all things gaming but we don’t want to be the only ones having the conversations. We’d love you to submit your interviews with people within the gaming space or with people who are known for doing other things who also like gaming. If you have someone that you want to interview then we’d love to have your submission.
Questions on a Google form that people can complete to be part of the mag without having to write full articles.
You can answer the questions here.
One big, longer form question a month for you to join the conversation. Have your say here.
We also want to feature events that you are running within the gaming space. We have a lot of Elite Dangerous events in our corner of the internet and we wanted to be able to showcase other game events too. Obviously Elite will still be heavily featured.
If you have something you want to be part of the magazine then please send it to chaoticspacemag@gmail.com and we will take it from there. If you’re not sure about what you want to write and feel like knocking some ideas around then get in touch and we can definitely work on something together. Please follow us on Twitter/X and or Facebook, our DMs are open if you want to have a chat about the magazine. Don’t let an unanswered question stop you from submitting.
We will be using the Guardian Style Guide during the editing process to keep the style consistent.
We are so keen for this to be a collaborative piece and really want to create something brilliant so we can’t wait to hear from you.
